How to Style Your Family for the Florida Landscape

Forget the "Uniform"

We’ve all seen the portraits where everyone is wearing matching white t-shirts and denim. While those have their place, a **Heritage Session** with Flash Exposure Fotography is about something deeper. It’s about looking like you *belong* to the landscape.

To achieve that timeless, "Grit & Gold" look, I always give my families one piece of advice: Choose texture over twinning.

The Amber & Earth Palette

Our Florida landscape is filled with rich, organic tones—the olive of the palmettos, the terracotta of the earth, and the warm cream of the dry grasses. When you dress in this palette, you don't just stand out; you harmonize with the light.

*Earth Tones:*Think rust, mustard, sage green, and deep chocolate.

*The Neutrals:* Creams, oatmeals, and charcoal. (Avoid stark, bright white—it can "glow" too much in the sunset and lose detail!)

Why Texture Matters

In my 10 years of photography, I’ve found that the camera *loves* raw materials.

*Linen & Muslin:*These fabrics move beautifully when children run. They catch the golden light in their fibers, creating a soft, ethereal halo.

*Knits & Denim:* For the "Grit" portion of our session, a chunky knit or a well-worn pair of overalls adds a layer of "realness" that a flat cotton shirt just can't match.

The "Grit to Gold" Transition

Don't be afraid to bring options! I often suggest starting our session in your "Grit" clothes—the ones the kids can get a little dirty in while they explore the garden. As the sun begins its final dip into the "Amber Hour," we’ll transition into your "Gold" outfits for those breathtaking, legacy portraits.

Final Tip: Let Them Be Little

If your daughter wants to go barefoot or your son wants to keep his favorite leather suspenders on, let them. Those tiny, authentic details are what make these photos a part of your family’s unique heritage.
